The lovely WordCamp Dublin organisers asked us all to think about three takeaways from the conference and act on them come Monday. Needless to say, we have more than three takeaways, the WordCamp Dublin talks were brilliantly picked!
Kayleigh, Pete and myself collectively went to quite a few talks and came back smiling from every one. Here are the main takeaways we can agree on:
Takeaway 1 – Understanding Gutenberg
We’re excited about Tammie Lister’s talk – What is Gutenberg?
One of the most needed and welcomed talks of the weekend gave us a better understanding of project Gutenberg. We know Gutenberg is still a controversial subject in the WordPress community, which is why more talks, information and explanations are welcome. Many of us left the talk on Gutenberg with a better understanding of how great the Gutenberg project will be and what’s more, we’re excited for it! Other WordCamp Dublin attendees seemed to agree:

The Gutenberg talk by @karmatosed was the best one in my opinion. Informative, well presented and inspiring. Great job #WCDUB

This week we’ll be spending time talking to our peers about Gutenberg and what it brings to the table. We’ll be preparing some blog posts on Gutenberg, too.
Takeaway 2 – Attracting blog readers
The talk that helped me most was Amanda Webb’s talk on getting the right people to read your blog. I have at least 10 new tabs open today with blogging tools to help me. Amanda shared the tools she uses and what she uses them for, her exact process of blogging and the benefits of getting a blogging buddy.

Today I’ll be starting by installing the Hemingway editor. As Amanda says: Using the Hemingway editor is like a game, to try and get rid of the red and green colours. I find Yoast’s traffic light system like a game and I love Yoast. All the more reason to get started!
Takeaway 3 – Getting closer to Google
Google employee Juan Felipe Rincon gave an in depth look into Google ranking strategies. Juan answered the scariest questions:
How does changing your site content impact rankings? How do I make changes it without causing damage? How can Google AMP help me?
We use Google AMP and wholeheartedly agree with Juan’s stance on it. Thank you to Google for your outreach.

Special note to the WordCamp Dublin organisers
Thank you to the WordCamp Dublin organisers for one of the most enjoyable WordCamps we’ve attended and sponsored this year. As an Admin sponsor of WordCamp Dublin you looked after us and made us feel important. We hope you run it every year, we’re already very eager to come back for WordCamp Belfast 2018!
Thank you for a brilliant weekend.
