WordCamp Brighton 2016 summary

27 July 2016

34SP.com Staff

34SP.com would like to say a big thank you to the organising team of Brighton’s very first WordCamp. The event took place at City College, a short walk away from the sunny seaside and Brighton Pier.

As members of staff, we were all were keen to attend from the moment the event was announced. Seven of us and Wapuu made the long road trip down to Brighton, including 34SP.com’s newly appointed WordPress specialists, Keith Hyde and Kayleigh Thorpe. The event was a huge success and definitely a bar raiser for other similar events.  34SP.com were very proud to be a Pavilion sponsor. You can see some excellent shots of the event here.

The finer details…

WordCamps consist of great talks, great atmosphere, great food, genuine WordPress followers and WordCamp Brighton was no disappointment. Highlights for some of our own team were as follows.

Nina, Support Technician:

“I particularly enjoyed Ross Wintle’s talk, ‘You are creative’. The great thing about this one is that it wasn’t all WordPress specific. He brought up points I would have never have considered e.g. that problem solving in technical support is a creative process… which I thought was a great way of looking at things.”

Keith, WordPress & Systems Specialist:

“A hero’s journey by Tamsin Urquhart was a great start to the event too. A moving talk that I imagine, could be related to by all of us. I certainly took a lot away from it. I now have food for thought on who I am, who I want to be and what I want to achieve.”

Finally, ‘Why and how to put your audience at the heart of your WordPress site’s content’ by Lana Burgess was great. I found Lana’s thought processes very interesting, especially in targeting your content for better contextual search relevance and understanding the motivations and needs of potential customers.

‘How to keep your clients happy’ with Barbara Saul reminded me about good techniques to help keep our clients happy and well informed. Based on her own experiences and with her own fun delivery style.’

Come meet us… we’re a friendly bunch!

WordCamps are the perfect place to improve your knowledge of WordPress itself, but also to meet people in an informal environment. Whether your goal is to network or simply to improve yourself we recommend you find out where your local WordCamp and WordPress User Group takes place. We were pleased to have met so many new faces in Brighton and also to have met many of our existing clients. Thank you to everyone who came to our stand to say hello, it was a pleasure to meet you.

If you did meet us, you probably got to grab some of our excellent swag. We’ve been handing out our awesome WordPress tshirts at events this year, a trio of unique designs made for developers, writers and marketers. We also usually have some great notebooks and pens and event themed Wapuu stickers too. If you stop by our stand or say hi to oen of our team we usually have some freebie hosting codes too, don’t be shy!

The next WordCamp event takes place in Belfast on the 1st and 2nd of October, quickly followed by WordCamp Manchester, our hometown on October 22nd-23rd. We’ll be there and you should be too!
