Our 2019 WordPress road trip taking shape

11 February 2019

Tim Nash

As we talked about a little earlier in the month, throughout 2019 we’re focusing our efforts and time on getting more hands on with the UK WordPress community.

We kicked off this years road trip with a visit to WordPress Exeter in January. It was our first visit down to WordPress Exeter and it was a great start to the year. As we enter February we’re starting to ramp up our travels in earnest. Some of the highlights include:

WordPress Sheffield (12th Feb) & WordPress Essex (21st Feb)

I will be visiting both Sheffield and Chelmsford this month to talk security and giving my “Come to the Dark Side” talk which has been proving popular at usergroups and conferences. I have updated the slides and talk for 2019 so even if you have seen the talk before, it’s a bit different though with the usual helping of practical content and explanations as to why things are important.

You can register for either event on meetup
Sheffield – 12th Feb
Chelmsford – 21st Feb

WordPress Glasgow (26th Feb)

Kayleigh will be visiting Glasgow, delivering a new session based on a lightning talk given at WordCamp Manchester on Yoast SEO. She has expanded it into a full-length talk. She will be covering setting up Yoast and her favourite features, aong with some misconceptions and limitations. This is not our first visit to Glasgow and for Kayleigh it will be her third time presenting to the WordPress Glasgow group.

WordPress Glasgow – 26th Feb

PHP Leeds (20th Feb)

I will be giving a talk at PHP Leeds on a slightly different security topic, “Security Headers” with a modified and more generic version of a talk I gave at WordCamp Edinburgh last year. Security headers can be a great additional layer of security and in this talk I will be going through what security headers are, how you add them as well as giving an in-depth look at some specific headers including Content Security Policies.

PHP Leeds – 20th Feb

WordPress Leeds (26th Feb)

This month WordPress Leeds, like many of the WordPress usergroups in the UK, will be focusing on positive mental health in association with WP & UP, a WordPress specific mental health charity. I will be taking a break from my usual security talks to give a very personal talk about how I deal with depression and the tools I have been using to help combat it and keep me on track.

You can register for WordPress Leeds via meetup
WordPress Leeds – 26th Feb.

Here’s how our full calendar is looking for the next few months as well, though expect a lot more to be added as we get further along.

Feb 12th
WP Sheffield

Feb 21st
WP Essex

Feb 26th
WP Glasgow

14th March
WP Suffolk

You’ll find one or more of our WordPress team at all of these events. We might be in the audience alongside you, we might be giving a talk, we might be handing out free stuff. We’ll probably be doing all three! At any rate, come say hi and if you have any WordPress problems you need help with, just let us know.

Please note that per the earlier post on our 2019 road trip, we don’t intend to sponsor any WordCamp events in the UK this year. We’re pouring all our energy and time into meetups and usergroups this year, in order to assist WordPress users up and down the country in a more hands-on manner.

If you’d like to see us at your next event or meetup – just say the word!
