As of today the price to purchase a new .com, .net, .org, .co.uk, .me.uk. .uk and .org.uk domain name has increased by £2.50 per year. We’ve tried to stave off this rise as long as possible, but increasing costs across the board have now forced our hand.
This represents the first and only time in our sixteen years of business that we’ve raised the price on any of these core domain names. A number of factors have compelled us to increase pricing, including:
- 51% compounded inflation from 2000-2015 and increased VAT rates.
- Increased registrar costs from Nominet, our provider of UK domain names, who recently implemented a 50% price hike in March 2016.
- Increasing domain costs by .com, .net and .org registries of more than 15%.
- The continued weakening of sterling in recent years has increased our costs to purchase .com, .net and .org domains which we purchase in US dollars.
Again, none of these factors have been priced into our core domain products, which remain unchanged since 34SP.com began offering domain names over 15 years ago. In taking this step we still believe our domain pricing represents a great value in the UK marketplace and overall the increase still remains below UK inflation for the 2000-2015 period.
At this time only new domain names will be affected by the increase. Later in the year we will also increase the price to renew existing domains to match this pricing.
