34SPresents! Come and learn WordPress with us

8 August 2019

Stuart

Want to come and hang out with our WordPress experts? Want to learn with some of the best in the business? What about free food and drink while you’re at it, too? If all that sounds like a decent way to spend an afternoon in sunny Manchester, pencil August 30th in your diary.

With our WordPress specialist team wrapping up their current slate of talks, they’ll be giving them one last time. We’ll be recording the presentations live for posterity, too. If you’ve not caught the team up and down the country over these last few months, this is the last time to catch the following talks:

Kayleigh Thorpe
Kayleigh Thorpe – WordPress superstar

Kayleigh Thorpe – Fixing a hacked website

Kayleigh will talk about cleaning up a hacked WordPress site, offering a step by step guide. There will be advice and tips on how to take back control.⁣

Keith Hyde - WordPress wizard
Keith Hyde – WordPress wizard

Keith Hyde – WP-CLI for fun and profit

In this talk, Keith will be looking at various ways to accelerate your workflow. Save time typing with handy shortcuts for the command line, such as scripts and aliases, emails, and everyday tasks, leaving more time for problem solving and coffee drinking. This talk will cover workflow and shortcuts on Mac, introducing terminal, Alfred, Brew, ZSH/Oh My ZSH and shell scripting. While it focuses on Mac, most of the talk is applicable for anyone using or connecting to a Unix/Linux system as well.

Tim Nash - WordPress guru
Tim Nash – WordPress guru

Tim Nash – Come to the dark side, we have cookies

Everyone should be a little bit worried about the security of their site, and at conferences, lots of security talks focus on practical steps people can take. In this talk, Tim will flip the norms and instead focus on several real examples of sites being hacked from the attackers perspective. We will see each attack from the bad actor’s view; identifying targets, analysing vulnerable sites, adding payload, exploiting and in doing so show how sites are infected, how some tools do prevent certain attacks, and how clever and indeed not so clever bad actors can circumvent lots of hardening.⁣

The details

The event will kick off at 2 p.m. promptly and the three presentations will run back to back with small breaks between. Each presentation will take around 45-60 minutes. As we’re recording these, they might take a little longer should we need to start/stop for production quality reasons. Your patience will of course be rewarded…

After we finish, we’ll be decamping for food and drinks. The exact location is TBD right now, depending on the response and attendee interest we get. Rest assured, we love good food and drink so it will be worth hanging around. Not least because our WordPress team will be on hand; if you have any nagging questions about your site or WP setup, we’ll be happy to chat about them.

If you’re interested in attending the event please drop us an email to support@34sp.com with the subject “34SPresents” and let us know ASAP. The event is first come, first served and is 18+ only.
