As a reward for our hardworking web hosting and domain name endeavors, every month the staff are taken for a night out on the town. This month we went bowling at one of Manchester city centre’s ever increasing number of bowling allies. All Star Bowling is situated over at Deansgate in the Great Northern Warehouse and is well worth a visit.
The place is very reminiscent of a classic 1950’s Bowling Alley, from the décor of bold colours, stylised with retro 50’s and 60’s imagery.
A few drinks were consumed in the waiting area, with a great selection of American ales and classic cocktails ready to be served by our eager bar stewards. We were then ushered into a Private section where Lanes 9 and 10 lived.
It felt like a cut above from your standard Bowling/Laserquest/Arcade multiplex. The lanes had a shimmery shine to them, meaning the balls actually went where they should be! Instead of being surrounded by armies of hyperactive school children overdosed on burgers and slush puppies, we had a Premier League footballer and his family in the lane next to us.
The competition was fierce, as none of the team like to lose. I tried to bowl with a sore arm but found better luck bowling with my supposed weaker left arm, managing to score a turkey (that’s 3 consecutive strikes in a row). Needless to say, I was overjoyed with that!
Bowling stances and techniques ranged from powerful bursts from Lee, Daniel’s more methodical calculated spin approach, Nina’s ‘bowl it and hope’ and my rather jammy opposite arm bowling all merged into fun and frolics.
2 games and 2 and a bit hours later, we set off into the early evening, with our competitive streaks placated and our hunger turning to food.
The 34SP.com office verdict, would come back again, hopefully soon, 8/10.
