Customer Story Go Web Design

As a specialist WordPress hosting company, we were delighted to speak to Dan at Go Web Design – a specialist WordPress developer. He’s spent more than 10 years designing and building WordPress sites for local businesses.

We’re delighted to have supported Dan and his business as a 34SP.com customer for several years and were keen to talk to him about his experiences of managing WordPress websites over the past few years.

The challenge: managing growth without complexity

As I was building the business, one of my early challenges was juggling a diverse and demanding client base that ranged from local tradespeople to financial services companies. At the same time, I was helping a lot of charities with their websites and digital presence – something I still do now as a way of helping my local community. However, this meant I was inheriting a lot of websites hosted with a wide variety of providers, including all the big and usual names that everyone knows.

Managing these sites individually was inefficient, and the support was often impersonal. Dan found that tickets were frequently answered in the middle of the night by overseas teams, which didn’t fit with his commitment to providing a local, reliable service. He wanted to be able to respond more quickly and, as a result, needed a hosting partner that offered technical excellence and fast response times.

The solution: consolidating with 34SP.com

At about this time, one of the sites I started to manage was already hosted with 34SP.com. I hadn’t come across them before but they were local and I was immediately struck by how they operated. They had a similar approach and a similar set of values to how I was running my business – drastically different from the industry giants I was dealing with elsewhere.

It was at a time when I was moving away from Shopify and Magento and specialising in WordPress. I was also able to rely on quick resolutions to the tickets I was creating, and my clients liked the proximity to their own businesses. They, and I, liked the local connection.

The results: reliability and scalability

Over time, Dan has migrated all his clients to 34SP.com, running 12 or so containers on the 34SP.com cloud platform. “This has helped me streamline my work, and made life a lot simpler – I’m only having to deal with one business, and when I do, things run smoothly. Issues and questions are resolved quickly. I know their support team staff by first name, and they know me. My current clients like the reliability, and my prospective clients like the idea of working with a Manchester-based host.”

What’s next for Go Web Design

“Business is always changing. That’s the nature of working with small and medium-sized businesses. Some businesses are growing quickly and what they need changes, some business owners retire, others, once they have a website, are happy with what they have. So, the future of Go Web Design is to continue doing what I’m doing – saying yes to new clients where I can, especially if they’re local, and supporting my existing businesses as they scale and grow. I’ve always stayed well-informed on digital marketing, and so the transition from SEO to a mixed world of SEO and GEO is one that I’m keeping a close eye on.”
