As mentioned, Simon is responsible for the 'look and feel' of the 34SP.com brand and website assets. Here are Simon's thoughts on the new design, "Much like the new Control Panel we launched earlier in the year, we designed and coded the new site from the ground up. This means that for the first time on 34SP.com, you can seamlessly browse between the main site, control panel and technical support areas. The overhaul has also seen us trim many of the legacy pages that bloated our old site, as well as adding some new & improved content too. We have for example, significantly increased the amount of information about each of the products and packages we sell. The order process has also been completely redesigned, meaning that ordering domains, web hosting and servers through our site has never been easier. The shopping basket has also been improved, making it easier for you to customise your order before
you place it. I can't go into every aspect of the redesign, other than to tell you we've been working full time on this for the best part of six months and during that process, we've addressed every aspect of the site. When we created the Control Panel, we had our customer base at the centre of our decision making process. We've carried that methodology across to our main site and we think that the new design improves the user experience for our customers considerably."
David is the Lead Developer on the 34SP.com website redesign. David presented his thoughts on the new website as well, "Performance optimisation has been a key focus in the redesign of our new site. The new site design is already set up to take care of CSS and javascript minification and GZIP compression. Our designers have also spent time optimising all the site images to achieve the perfect trade off between filesize and quality. In addition, all static resources are served from a separate, cookie free domain and leverage heavy caching of all static assets through far future expiry dates. We have also implemented a custom cache-breaking system to allow for instant updates to static resources without the need for hard refreshes or cache expiry.
The new site design is outperforming the current site even while in a development state and our optimisations have not yet been completed. In addition to the optimisation above, and the general tweaks and fixes that will be applied before the site finally goes live, 34SP.com has setup a Varnish Cache server (https://www.varnish-cache.org) which is essentially an HTTP accelerator that stores frequently accessed static content in memory allowing it to be accessed without disk reads."
